Tyr - o revedere pe care o aşteptam de multă vreme

E întotdeauna o plăcere să-i revăd pe feroezii de la Tyr. O trupă remarcabilă care a concertat duminică, 15 septembrie în Silver Church alături de Finntroll şi Skalmold. Dacă până acum interviurile le-am realizat în special cu Heri Joensen, de data aceasta am stat mai mult de vorbă cu Terji Skibenaes şi cu Gunnar Thomsen. După ce ne-am întâlnit în Letonia, Germania şi Ungaria, Gunnar ne-a întrebat uşor confuz: "Voi de-aici sunteţi?", recomandându-ne ca data viitoare când ne vom mai vedea să le dăm din timp de ştire, să putem sta şi la un pahar de vorbă.

De la trupele pe care le respect cumpăr întotdeauna câte un suvenir de la standul de merchandise. Prefer materialele discografice şi abia apoi tricourile sau bijuteriile. De data aceasta "capTYRa" de după show: tricou, dublu CD cu autograf - nou lansatul album "Valkyrja", într-o ediţie de lux, care include un afiş şi o pană de chitară. Însă m-am ales şi cu suveniruri de la Skalmold: o pană de la unul dintre chitarişti şi un băţ de la tobar.

Jeff Hanneman, membru fondator Slayer, s-a stins din viaţă

„În noaptea aceasta o stea nu va mai străluci, iar scena va fi puţin mai întunecată”, i-a adus un ultim omagiu Dave Mustaine chitaristului Jeff Hanneman. Fostul membru Slayer se retrăsese din trupă în 2011, din cauza problemelor de sănătate, dar a continuat să compună pentru celebra formaţie. Artistul s-a stins la doar 49 de ani, înainte ca albumul la care colabora să fie realizat. Tristul anunţ a fost făcut de foştii colegi, care s-au declarat „devastaţi” la aflarea veştii.

Potrivit doctorilor de la Hemet Valley Medical Center, cauza decesului a fost insuficienţa hepatică. Jeff suferea de o boală rară de piele, provocată cel mai probabil de o înţepătură de păianjen, care l-a ţinut departe de scenă. Anul trecut solistul Tom Araya îşi exprima optimismul în privinţa evoluţiei stării de sănătate a chitaristului, despre care anunţa că îşi recapătă treptat mobilitatea braţului afectat, neexcluzând o revenire a lui Jeff în formula Slayer.

Cu toate acestea, „World Painted Blood” (2009) rămâne ultimul CD care poartă semnătura muzicianului. Din 1981, când a pus bazele grupului californian, şi până la dispariţia sa prematură, Hanneman a colaborat la toate cele zece albume ale trupei. „Raining Blood”, „Angel of Death”, „Seasons in the Abyss” sau „South of Heaven” sunt doar câteva dintre piesele emblematice ale Slayer la care el şi-a adus contribuţia.

Anathema acustic, arc peste timp la Bucureşti

Trupa fraţilor Cavanagh a fost una dintre primele formaţii metal care au concertat în Bucureşti, la puţini ani după evenimentele din Decembrie 1989. De altfel, istoria Anathema se leagă de România, primul lor turneu european trecând şi prin Capitală, în aprilie 1994. Tot în aprilie, dar în 2013, britanicii au oferit un recital acustic.

Puţini sunt cei care i-au urmărit şi acum 19 ani, la Polivalentă, dar şi în Hard Rock Cafe, zilele trecute. Generaţiei fanilor doom/death care au scuturat din plete în show-ul care a făcut parte din „Manic Depression Tour” i-a urmat cea a tinerilor care au umplut clubul din Parcul Herăstrău. La fel de entuziaşti, aceştia au cântat alături de muzicieni pe tot parcursul spectacolului.

Vincent (voce, chitară) şi Daniel Cavanagh (voce, chitară, clape) au fost însoţiţi de această dată doar de Lee Douglas (voce). Restul instrumentelor au fost substituite de sample-uri, însă chiar şi aşa legătura emoţională dintre artişti şi public s-a realizat cu uşurinţă.

Setlistul a inclus piese precum “Thin Air”, “Deep”, “Forgotten Hopes”, “Destiny is Dead”, “Untouchable” part I-II, “Dreaming Light” şi „Parisienne Moonlight”. “One Last Goodbye” a fost dedicată tuturor celor care “cunosc senzaţia de a pierde pe cineva drag”. Un moment deosebit a fost reprezentat de “A Natural Disaster”, prima melodie care a fost înregistrată de solista Lee Douglas ca lead vocal, după ce aceasta s-a alăturat trupei, în 2000.

Dintr-o perioadă anterioară a istoriei Anathema datează „Lost Control”, care „a fost compusă de un bun prieten al nostru, Duncan Patterson”, după cum a ţinut să precizeze Danny, recunoscând meritele celui care a fost membru al grupului până în 1998. “Temporary Peace” şi “Flying” au încheiat prima parte a concertului, după care Vincent şi Lee s-au retras în culise. Scena i-a aparţinut în totalitate lui Daniel, pentru două piese: “Are You There” şi “High Hopes”. Aceasta din urmă, lansată de Pink Floyd, a devenit deja o constantă în show-urile acustice Anathema. „Dacă nu o cunoaşteţi, mergeţi acasă să o ascultaţi”, a glumit chitaristul.

Formula de trio s-a reunit pentru finalul recitalului. “Angelica” şi “Hope” au precedat micul omagiu adus de către muzicieni faimoşilor lor conaţionali. La loc de cinste în sufletul lor se află The Beatles, cei care, în opinia lui Vincent, sunt „peste Black Sabbath, peste oricine altcineva”, fiind „la fel de profunzi ca şi iubirea”. Din repertoriul lui Lennon, McCartney & Co. au ales ultracunoscuta „Oh! Darling”.

A urmat o nouă incursiune în discografia Pink Floyd: „Another Brick In The Wall”, scrisă de Roger Waters - „cel mai mare compozitor pe care l-a dat ţara noastră”, după cum consideră solistul Anathema. Pentru final au păstrat una dintre cele mai vechi piese incluse în setlistul de la Bucureşti: „Fragile Dreams”.

„Am rămas fideli muzicii, am rămas fideli nouă înşine. N-am căutat niciodată să ne îmbogăţim, altfel ne-am fi orientat spre gothic”, au mai spus artiştii. Şi chiar dacă stilul Anathema a evoluat în timp, muzica lor continuă să prindă la publicul din România. „Suntem trupa care a cântat aici pentru, poate, cea mai lungă perioadă de timp”, după cum a observat Vincent Cavanagh.

Mariangela Demurtas: „Anche quando sono in vacanza non riesco mai a stare ferma”

Mariangela Demurtas, la solista del gruppo Tristania, vive in Norvegia, ma torna ogni  anno per le feste nella sua Sardegna natale. Nemmeno qui però riesce a stare lontana dal palcoscenico, ed infatti ha fatto due concerti, in Bitti e Sassari. La cantante ci ha parlato non solo del suo nuovo album che uscirà quest’anno a maggio, ma anche dei suoi altri progetti.

- Dopo un anno pieno di concerti, piu il lavoro per il nuovo CD di Tristania, sei tornata in Sardegna. Come ti senti qui, sei piu tranquilla?
- Ovviamente, il senso di pace, di tranquillita che trovi a casa e unico. Ci tengo sempre a tornare a casa per le feste o comunque non appena posso. Capisco che la situazione in Italia adesso non sia delle piu semplici, quindi mi spinge comunque a stare fuori, pero mi interessa molto il sviluppo della mia zona, quindi magari un giorno posso tornare e cercare di aiutare qua invece di stare all’estero. Ancora non lo so.

- Sei tornata in Sardegna ogni anno per le feste?
- Sì, io ritorno per le feste, come Natale e Pasqua, e d’estate ovviamente, per esempio un mese o due.

- Non sei mai rimasta per Natale in Norvegia?
- Sì, solo il primo anno, quando mi sono trasferita ho passato il Natale a casa di Anders (Hidle, chitarrista di Tristania - nota editoriale) e dei suoi genitori.

- Sono molto diverse le tradizioni norvegesi da quelle sarde?
- Sono totalmente l’opposto. Sono molto diverse, sono impostate diversamente. Forse qui sono un pò più aperte, socievoli, perché in Norvegia, per esempio, a Natale si riunisce specialmente la famiglia e si tende a passare i giorni con la famiglia, invece in Sardegna magari si passa un giorno o una sera in famiglia e poi si sta fuori, con gli amici, assolutamente.

- Non sei venuta solo per la vacanza, ma hai cantato in Bitti e Sassari. Che puoi dirmi di questi concerti?
- Sono andati benissimo. Anche quando sono in vacanza non riesco mai a stare ferma, devo sempre fare qualcosa. Mi pongo degli obiettivi molto spesso e cerco di fare delle cose nuove. Per quanto riguarda i concerti, mi piacerebbe portare avanti il progetto, perche comunque è un tipo di live diverso di Tristania, comunque mi permette di esprimermi anche in maniera un pò più intima, con pubblico insomma. Così sarei l’unica protagonista, insieme al chitarrista, ovviamente. E siccome mi diverto tantissimo intrattenere il pubblico, allora trovo questo tipo di espressione fuori dallo stile norvegese, scandinavo.

- Come si chiama il chitarrista?
- Francesco Marras, è molto bravo.

- Hai cantato solo metal?
 - Si, solo cover rock-metal, da Faith no More a Kiss, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, sicuramente qualcosa di Metallica e Iron Maiden, Ronnie James Dio, Black Sabbath, Motorhead... Ma a Bitti no. Bitti è un discorso diverso. Come anche nel mio luogo di provenienza, ovviamente vengono persone di diverse fasce d’eta a sentirmi, e quindi scelgo un repertorio più blues, pop, jazz, che è una musica che io adoro. Quindi riesco ad attirare un pò tutti.

- Che cosa è cambiato nella tua vita dopo che ti sei trasferita in Norvegia?
- E cambiato tantissimo! Allora, inanzitutto è stato uno scambio culturale sempre positivo a livello personale. Ho sempre lavorato molto su questo, per me stessa, e trasferirmi in un paese totalmente diverso significa andare incontro a tante difficoltà, significa anche crescere più in fretta, mi sono trovata in situazioni che non avrei mai immaginato, ma me la sono cavata. Adesso mi ritrovo ad avere un’appertura maggiore rispetto a prima e ho sviluppato la capacità di vivere in posti dove c’e un’altra cultura, un’altra mentalita. Mi è servito.

- Con Tristania lavori per un nuovo CD. Cosa mi puoi raccontare, come va il lavoro? Avete scelto il titolo definitivo? Quanti pezzi saranno?
- Stiamo ancora discutendo sul nome del album, dobbiamo ancora decidere. Per quanto riguarda i pezzi, siamo ancora in fase decisionale, quindi ancora non potrei dire il loro numero. Però potrei dire che i pezzi sono molto più diretti ed energici respetto a quelli di „Rubicon”. „Rubicon” e nato in una situazione decisamente più difficile, in un momento in cui praticamente tutta la band si stava riformando. Molti membri sono cambiati, e quindi ci siamo ritrovati faccia a faccia senza conoscerci troppo, ne artisticamente, ne personalmente. Per me era una cosa totalmente nuova. Abbiamo scritto i pezzi cercando di venirci incontro l’uno con l’altro. In quest’ultimo album, invece, conoscendo già il potenziale delle persone con cui stiamo lavorando, come band, siamo riusciti a lavorare molto più sul suono, sull’energia, sulla definizione dei pezzi, moltissimi dei brani di questo nuovo album mi piaciono tanto. Sono molto fiduciosa nei confronti di questa nuova uscita.

- Si sa che hai un workshop di songwriting, allora vorrei chiederti se hai lavorato anche ai testi delle canzoni del vostro nuovo CD.
- Per quanto riguarda le canzoni di Tristania, io non scrivo i testi. Ho collaborato con due testi del vecchio album, ma non sento di identificarmi nello songwriting, alla parte dei testi appunto. Penso di avere qualche idea un pò diversa, forse di lavoro un pò più personale, quello sì, e in fatti scrivo i miei pezzi apparte, ho le mie canzoni, ho le mie cose, e li e dove attualmente posso esprimermi il mio tocco personale. Quindi, quando faccio corsi di songwriting, cerco di aiutare le persone a capire come fare un pezzo che possa essere ascoltato, che possa essere presentato alle altre persone. Ovviamente ognuno ha il suo stile personale, però è giusto anche sapere che esistono delle strategie, elementi dove io posso aiutarli comunque a fare un brano migliore, magari meno stancante o meno vago, più preciso, più conciso, e far vedere un pò come lavoro io. Quello che io insegno sulle parole è strettamente personale, mentre quello che io insegno sulle melodie è una cosa un pò più generale. Ovviamente spiego un pò dei dettagli sul mio stile, sul mio modo di fare una canzone o un brano strumentale ed insomma do un punto di partenza da dove poi ognuno crea e sviluppa la propria idea.

- Hai detto che hai scritto canzoni tue personali, ci sarà un CD di Mariangela Demurtas solo?
- Ci sarà per forza, sento un forte bisogno di poter esprimermi in modo libero attraverso la mia musica. Ho sempre scritto delle canzoni da quando ero una bambina, quindi l’unica differenza è che con Tristania c’è un’identita molto forte, scandinava e tipica del nord, e io ovviamente avendo un carattere molto southern, del sud, non mi identifico con questo modo di essere troppo severo, troppo scuro. Le tematiche mi piaciono e mi piace interpretarle, quello è sicuro. Però dal punto di vista dell’atteggiamento molte volte mi piacerebbe esplodere un pò.

- Sei anche conosciuta per i tuoi corsi di canto.
- Sì, ho fatto vari workshop sul canto, in Norvegia ne ho già presentato tre o quattro volte ma ancora non l’ho fatto all’estero. Conto pero di poterlo fare anche all’estero e spostarmi per fare un corso un pò itinerante e divertirmi un pò con questo tipo di prodotto che, secondo me, è una svolta nel mio futuro come cantante.

- Hai anche alunni italiani in questi corsi?
- Sì, ho alunni italiani, ma sono dei bambini delle scuole elementari, che vogliono imparare italiano perchè hanno un genitore italiano. Però non ho allievi italiani per quel che riguarda il canto. Ho specialmente molti norvegesi. Per il momento la cosa più simpatica è riuscire a smuovere un pò queste persone molto timide, è stato divertente dal mio punto di vista.

- Con questo tipo di corso, in Sardegna, pensi di poter trovare una nuova Mariangela?
- Sì, io veramente conosco già la Mariangela della Sardegna. Sicuramente la Mariangela di oggi ha molto più coraggio di prima e lo sviluppo è costante, per quello che propongo cose nuove. Oggi mi sento sicuramente più responsabile nei confronti della mia societa e delle persone che mi sono attorno. Quindi prendo la responsabilità di lavorare su me stessa, di scoprire le cose migliori per poter darle anche agli altri. E cio che faccio quando vado in giro con miei workshops, i seminari, mi piace tantissimo quando le persone scoprono qualcosa in se stesse, perche so come l’ho scoperto io.

- Pensi che il publico sardo è pronto per i concerti rock?
- Non lo so, proviamoci (risate). Non sono ancora pronti per questo tipo di musica, secondo me. Ma ti dirò, a seconda di come tu proponi determinate cose riesci a convincere che potrebbe esserci qualcosa di interesante. Ovviamente non puoi sbattere una cosa nuova in faccia alla gente cosi, senza avere la sensibilità di capire che comunque devono arrivarci. Io vengo da un paese piccolissimo, dove veramente c’è una chiusura estrema, perche non ci sono scambi, siamo solo noi sardi, non c’e nessun altro. E lì non hanno neanche mai sentito parlare di metal a nessun livello. Forse loro collegavano il metal alle cose come le messe nere, quindi figurati come è stato per me.

- Nel 2013, Tristania va a cantare al grande festival di Wacken. Per voi questa è la quarta volta che andate al Wacken Open Air. Che significa tornare lì?
- Sarà un sacco di casino! Significa tanta gente, significa che sicuramente  sarà bellissimo suonare davanti ad un grande pubblico, incontrerò tanti amici nel backstage, e bellissimo! E un festival fantastico, senza nulla togliere alla qualità di altri palchi di questo genere. Quindi, è bello andare a Wacken, ovviamente però ci sono anche tante band, con un’organizzazione di questo tipo non hai tempo di caminare, di rilassarti, sei trasportato da una parte all’altra e poi canti, suoni,e subito dopo ti smontano tutto e  devi andare via. Una volta non ho avuto tempo per dormire, sono riuscita a chiudere gli occhi solo due ore, ero stanchissima. E una cosa enorme, quindi alla fine c’è un sacco da fare.

- Il nuovo CD uscirà sui mercati a maggio, ci sarà un tour per promuovere questo album?
- Oh, yes! Sì, faremmo un tour per promuovere il CD, ancora stiamo decidendo le date, dove, come, con chi eccetera. Quindi ancora siamo nella fase di sviluppo. Adesso, che mi vengono in mente, come festival, abbiamo il Wacken in agosto, poi ovviamente tutti gli altri festival saranno da decidere a gennaio-febbraio, fare il booking. Quindi, ancora non so.

- Hai detto di Sibiu, che cosa ti ricordi di quel festival?
- E stato bellissimo, mi ricordo che la città era molto carina, siamo andati a piedi fino alla piazza passseggiando dove c’erano tutti i bar, i negozzi. Mi ricordo che io e la mia band siamo usciti a fare shopping e poi siamo andati al concerto.Erano tutti molto gentili ed il cibo buonissimo. Durante il concerto mi sono divertita tantissimo, la qualità del suono era ottima, non ho veramente niente da ridire. Se ricevessi un’altra proposta per tornare lì, direi sicuramente sì. E poi sono stata benissimo anche a Bucarest, nel  2012, per dire la verita. Era un festival molto grande, B’estfest. Bello, davvero. In Romania mi sono trovata benissimo. Mi ricordo che una volta ci siamo fermati per comprare la frutta fresca, per strada.

Theatres des Vampires haunted Transylvania

Last year, Sonya Scarlet and her colleagues played in Romania for the first time. They came back this year for two more shows, in Bucharest, but also in Cluj.
Theatres des Vampires started the European tour on April 13th, in Slovenia. After Maribor, they played in Zagreb (Croatia), Ankara and Istanbul (Turkey), and they entered Romania on April 19th. Along came two other Italian bands, JTR Sickert and Lunocode.
Many think that the artist’s life is a perpetual joy - the musicians come, sing, have fun, then they go towards the next destination. But this is only the nice part of it: two journalists from adevarul.ro felt themselves how it is like to be in a tour. After two days, out of the 18 days of their European tour, they knew how tiresome it is.
No matter how comfortable and solid a tour bus may be - be it 20 meters long and 4 meters high, plus a trailer for the instruments -, for those who are not used to sleep in the car it is really difficult. „After a while you get used to it, you feel like a child in a cradle”, a member of the „vampires’ caravan” said, trying to see the funny part of it.
But it’s not quite so, if you travel along the narrow curves of the road along Prahova Valley when you’re trying to sleep. The artists admitted that their biorhythm is affected. Some can’t rest as they should, and this isn’t their only problem. A stop at the gas station is useful for the driver who has to drive for up to 11 hours, but also for the musicians, who take advantage of this break and go to brush their teeth and to wash their faces. And the slightest unpredicted delay can upset the entire schedule.
A frugal breakfast at the tables inside the tour bus is less than sufficient in order to insure them the much needed calories for the day ahead. “The local promoters can offer us just a meal a day in the club, and, while time is so short, sometimes we are forced to choose between a dinner and a shower, while we can’t skip the sound check”, Sonya Scarlet told us. Moreover, the interviews for the media and other activities must also be included in their schedule.
On the way to Bucharest, an unpredicted stop - a routine check of the Bulgarian police - consumed two hours of their precious time, so the schedule in Wings Club had to be retimed. But, as the Bulgarian band Eufobia - previously announced for this tour - didn’t join the line-up, there weren’t essential changes in the schedule.
At 7.30pm local time, the first Italian band started the concert: Lunocode, founded in 2004 by the brothers Perseo (drums) and Paride Mazzoni (guitar), Giordano Boncompagni (guitar) and Francesco Rossi (bass). In the beginning, they played under the name Anima, but they changed their name into Lunocode in 2010, after they got signed by Spider Rock Promotion. The latter name is a wordplay between Lunokhod (a Russian word meaning „moonwalker”) and the English word „code”.
In the same year, they changed the singer: Daphne Romano became their new vocalist. In Bucharest, the redheaded girl warmed up the atmosphere, and the fans gathered in front of the stage. The musicians were a pleasant surprise for the Romanian audience. They played songs from “Celestial Harmonies”, an album released this year. But Daphne gave us good news: “We’re currently working on a new album, we already completed some songs”, she revealed.
For technical reasons, Tiarra (Romania) played earlier than expected: while the next two bands were using similar sound settings, a change in the schedule was necessary. The Romanian band also played for about an hour, their show being a delight for their local fans and a pleasant surprise for the Italian “guests”.
A more than pleasant appearance was the next band, JTR Sickert. The band from Modena, founded in 2005, evolved very fast, gaining success with their industrial/gothic metal sound. After they played at Viadana, in a concert where Dark Tranquillity, but also Theatres des Vampires also played, Sonya Scarlet was more than happy to include JTR Sickert in their European tour. Among the two Italian bands is a close friendship, as it was easy for us to notice during the two days we spent in the caravan.
A delicate female singer - Emy Zona - and a tireless male singer - Tiziano Panini, alias Billy T Cooper - made a perfect duo on stage. While her soft voice sang the slower parts, he made a dynamic show, dancing from the first to the last song. He didn’t stop for a second, and sometimes he was waving the LED-covered stand of his microphone above the heads of the front rows of the audience.
While in other bands the female singer is the one who changes her clothes during the show, for JTR Sickert the things were completely different: over his fishnet shirt, he put on several black jackets. He was also wearing a black top hat over his long hair, reminding of Slash. With a makeup resembling Lord Vampyr’s and full of attitude like Valor Kand, the Italian vocal still is an original artist, being a remarkable appearance.
But the long awaited band was, of course, the headliners, with Sonya Scarlet full of verve. Only a few knew that she wasn’t feeling very well when the tour bus was parked in front of the club, several hours earlier. But the short time she had was enough for her to regain her strength, so she could offer the best of her show. Being on stage made her to be completely herself: she seemed to draw her energy from the enthusiasm of the audience, like a real vampire.
In Bucharest, but also in Cluj, Theatres des Vampires used the same set list: „Keeper of Secrets", „Lilith Mater Inferorum", „Bring Me Back", „Angel of Lust", „Blood Addiction", „Le Grand Guignol", „Unspoken Words", „Moonlight Waltz", „Apart", „Anno Dracula", „Medousa", „Rain", „Wherever You Are", „Sangue", „La Danse Macabre du Vampire", while „Carmilla" and „Blut Divine" were played as the encore.
The lady-vampire showed her sharp fangs and she drank “blood” during the song “Sangue”. Many regretted that she didn’t include the moment when the flames sprung from the Necronomicon she opens. But from the songs that the audience vainly requested, the band could create another 17-songs-long set list for a show as exciting as the one they offered.
They included a new song though: “Apart”, one of the songs they composed for the soundtrack of “The Cult of Lamia”. In the movie, which will be released soon, Sonya Scarlet received a part. On this occasion, she co-operates again with the director David Bracci and the actor Abraam Fontana, after the video of the song “Carmilla”.
In Bucharest, the Italian singer changed three costumes, right on stage, behind an improvised curtain. What she couldn’t do a year ago, she did now: she could offer her exquisite dresses, which she decomposed, step by step, until an extremely sexy costume.
She also used head accessories, one of them in the style of the legendary “Medousa”, for the song titled such. If the first costume was mostly red, the second one was completely black, while in the end she showed a white dress. The fans didn’t leave the club until each of them received his share of signed posters, or photos with the artists, and the musicians remained in Wings Club long after midnight.
At about 3am, the caravan moved on towards Transylvania, with two extra passengers on board. While the Bulgarian band Eufobia withdrew from the tour, leaving several seats unoccupied, and the journalists from adevarul.ro used two of these seats. The artists spent a little while at the tables in the bus before they went in their „bedroom” upstairs.
So we could note some of their thoughts, shortly after the show. They were impressed again how enthusiasts they Romanian fans are. There was also a thing they regretted: „We really wished to visit Bran Castle, while it is known as Dracula Castle”, the drummer Gabriel Valerio told us. But the time was too short and no extra stop could be included in the schedule, so the castle had to wait for another trip to Romania.
If you can imagine a more difficult job than to tend a horde of rabbits, then you must think how it is like to coordinate a group of 19 persons. Each of them had their own needs, from ordering a vegetarian meal to creating the best schedule for the showers. Not to mention tasks like negotiating with the local promoters and solving virtually all the unpredicted problems that may appear. Francesco Grieco, the tour manager, did all this, and more: he replaced the driver during the last hour of the way.
So he was in charge of the long vehicle along the streets of Cluj, and he also had to coordinate the fast downloading of the trailer, full of instruments, in the shortest time possible. So he deserved a good share of the success of both shows, in Wings Club (organised by Stay Metal Forever) and in Irish&Music Pub (organised by Welcome2Cluj).
After they carried the large bags along the labyrinth inside the club, some of the artists went to the showers, others gathered for the dinner, while others went to do the sound check. In charge of the merchandise stand was Katia „Diktator”, so the fans could meet in person the one who created many of Sonya’s exquisite costumes. We could say that the group is like a really family, and some of them are a family indeed: Katia is married to the sound engineer Christian Ice, who took care of the settings for the entire tour.
The merchandise included a large range: the most expensive was the DVD „Moonlight Waltz Tour 2011” (80 lei, almost 20 euro), which was scheduled for release at the end of April, while the cheapest ones were the badges (4 lei, almost 1 euro). In between, there were T-shirts, posters, pendants, CDs and many more.
The concert started with a local band: for The Hourglass (Cluj) it was the first important concert under this name. Alma Vomastek and her colleagues prepared the audience for the feast to follow.
While the set lists were similar like those in Bucharest, most of the artists chose other costumes than in Bucharest. In Wings Club, the guys from Lunocode had to play in their „working costumes”, because of the tight schedule, as one of the band members revealed. Daphne charmed the audience in Cluj too, with her seductive eyes - the effect was enhanced by the dark makeup around her eyes -, not to mention her musical skills. In front of the stage there gathered several fans who occupied the strategic places, and they didn’t move from there until the end of the show.
The vocal from JTR Sickert was also well received by the spectators, and some of them already knew the songs from the Internet. „I’m for the first time in Romania, but I will certainly return in your country”, Tiziano told us after the show.
As expected, the headliners were in their best form, with Fabian Varesi on keyboards, Stephan Benfante on guitar, Zimon Lijoi on bass and Gabriel Valerio on drums. „We came home, in Transylvania”, Sonya Scarlet told when she came on stage. Maybe such a statement made the fans from Cluj to cheer louder than the Bucharest metalheads. The Italian countess showed three more costumes, two black ones and a white one, and of course a different, but nonetheless spectacular makeup.
For the local artists, such a show couldn’t be missed; among them was Andy Ghost (Altar), who took advantage of his day off in his band schedule to see the concerts. And at the end he didn’t miss the chance to have some pictures with the Italian musicians.
After the signing session, the vampires haunted through Cluj at night, but not in search of their next victim: they went to the hotel where they had a last shower before leaving for Budapest, their next destination. On the way, they admired the Transylvanian architecture and had a picture in Unirii Square, with St. Michael Church on the background.
While for the journalists this interesting, but tiresome experience ended, Theatres des Vampires continued their tour - they completed just half of it so far. After Bucharest and Cluj, they were scheduled to play in Budapest (Hungary), Bratislava (Slovakia), Czestochowa, Warsaw and Poznan (Poland), Torgau (Germany) and Prague (Czech Republic).
Sonya Scarlet revealed us how can she resist to such a difficult style of life: “I have a healthy life, I practice sports, and I don’t drink alcohol. I open a beer mostly because others do that too, but I almost never drink it to the bottom. I practiced ballet, and three times a week I go to swim. I have this style of life since I was five”. A similar life, and also from an early age, was chosen by Tiziano from JTR Sickert, as she also revealed. Too bad there aren’t more metalheads who buy tickets for their shows in order to reward all the artists’ efforts. And we can see such a sad situation at most of the metal concerts in Romania, for the last several years.
Many things were still left to be told, but, as another international rock star told us on other occasion, “what happens in the tour stays in the tour”.

Cronicile vampirilor, ediţia 2012 - Theatres des Vampires la Bucureşti şi Cluj

Dacă în 2011 Theatres des Vampires au concertat doar la Bucureşti, anul acesta au inclus, alături de Capitală, şi Clujul în traseul lor prin România. Şi nu au venit singuri, ci alături de alte două trupe italiene - Lunocode şi JTR Sickert.

După concert, fanii nu au ratat ocazia de a se poza cu artiştii.

Cum show-urile au ieşit bine, muzicienii şi-au permis un moment de relaxare.

Sonya Scarlet (Theatres des Vampires) şi Billy T. Cooper (JTR Sickert) şi-au dorit o amintire din România.

Celor doi li s-au alăturat şi ceilalţi colegi de scenă.
